Different Stages of subterranean termites

Termites go through four stages in their life-egg, larva, nymph, and adult. Each stage has a specific job to do in order for the colony to survive.

The egg is the first stage. In this stage, termite eggs are generally laid directly on top of soil or any other type of surface termites might feed off of. Termites use a substance called "Termite Mud" to stick their eggs together into a mass that can be as large as 400-500 eggs depending on the species.

Termite larvae are small, white in color and have no eyes. They eat the termite mud that surrounds their eggs for nourishment. The larvae grow through three stages of development called Instars. Each stage of larva is larger than the previous stage and has an increasingly more powerful jaw structure to help them be able to chew wood. In the last Instar larva stage, they are referred to as a pseudergate. A pseudergate has no more termite mud left so it begins to eat away at its peers in order to survive. As a result it develops a hard outer shell called a cuticle, giving it protection from other termites cannibalizing it.

Once the pseudergate termite is done with development, it molts into its adult stage. The adult is completely white except for its eyes that are dark red or brown in color.

Baiting System for Termites in Princeton

A baiting system involves placing stations around your home that are filled with a bait that the termites will eat. Once they have eaten the bait, they will spread it to other termites, eventually killing the entire colony.

The baiting system is most effective when combined with a liquid spot treatment. The spot treatment will kill any termites that are present in the area, while the bait will eventually kill the entire colony.
